During Morehouse’s Annual Founder’s week Kim gave a lecture to Journalism & Sports students about the rep(utation) of rap music in mainstream media. She used Binder’s article as a starting point (Constructing racial rhetoric: Media depictions of harm in heavy metal and rap music) and then segued into recent examples, the differences between the U.S. and the Netherlands regarding rap music reporting, and explaining why it is important to put rap in a historical, political, economic, and sociocultural context.
