KIMs lecture at Erasmus University Rotterdam (politics and rap music)

KIM gave a lecture on the complex relationship between politics and rap music. The term ‘complex’ also refers to Love’s theory (2016) on complex personhood within Hip Hop culture. This class was part of professor Julian Schaap’s minor program: ‘Greatest Hits and Critics’ Picks.’

Illustrative quote: “Black people’s historic exclusion from social capital gave birth to a social construction that coexists with the dominant culture, borrowing necessary aspects to progress, but remained grounded in a type of counter-culture.” (Richardson & Scott, 2002).

KIM gives a guest lecture at the Erasmus University Rotterdam

KIM gave a lecture entitled ‘Artists with Attitudez: a historical journey through the complex relationship between rap music and politics’ at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. She discussed i.a.1) the case of 2 live crew, 2) the political, cultural and economic tensions in gangsta rap, 3) BLM -Breonna Taylor- and activism within Hip Hop culture, and 4) Cardi B and Joe Biden.
Very well coordinated minor (organizer: dr. Julian Schaap).
